No, however it is best to book in advance to avoid disappointment as we do have days where all of our equipment is out at certain times, or our reserved car park spaces are full. It is also recommended that if you have particular arrangements, such as if you are already a registered member and would like to arrange for someone to meet you at the bus station with the equipment, that you pre-book. This will enable us to make timely arrangements to meet you at the agreed point.

Yes. In this case we strongly encourage you to book in advance as our limited amount of equipment can run out on certain days - especially during good weather and the school holidays. Once again if you haven't booked in advance we will always do our best to accomodate you if the equipment is not already pre-booked.

Each person will need to enrol separately but they do not all need to have the same grade of membership each. Depending on the number of people in the group, there may be additional time required during the enrolment process in order to allow everyone to complete the registration and training process.

If you require us to collect the equipment from you at another location (e.g. the Coach Park) at a time before 2.40pm, we ask that you could inform us of this as soon as possible. As we normally only have one member of staff or one volunteer on duty at one particular time, multiple collections will require us to liase with other members whilst we temporarily close the scheme to meet you. If you are able to inform of this at the time of booking, we will work out a plan that is mutually beneficial.

Yes, we require all equipment back by 2.40pm  each day so that the vehicle check in sheet can be completed.

Yes, most certainly. However if you plan to do this please can you let us know as soon as possible as if all equipment has been returned by 2pm and there are no other bookings on a particular day then the scheme may close at 2pm or thereafter.

Truro Shopmobility doesn't provide any rain covers for the equipment. We have also been advised that the equipment is not let out during inclement weather as it can cause damage to the equipment that means that others won't be able to use the equipment after you. Because of this we will not issue equipment during conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds or during ice and snow.

We will endeavour to check the weather when we arrive at the office in the morning and contact anyone booked in if there are particular concerns. If you are unsure, please do not hesitate to call us before you leave.

Where the weather is particularly difficult (e.g. ice and snow), there may not be any safe way for our volunteers or staff to reach the office to either put a note on the door, answer the phone or to change the answerphone message. In these particular cases we will endeavour to update this website where possible.

Yes, if you let us know in advance when making a booking we can normally deliver to the main Truro bus station, or certain bus stops within Truro.

However it’s usually not advised for equipment to be delivered to the railway station as this will affect the amount of battery available to you for use within the city centre. A taxi rank is available at the Train Station.

If it is your first time using the equipment you must go to the main office in Moorfield Car park to collect your equipment so that we can complete the registration and training process.

No, sorry Truro shopmobility is not able to deliver equipment outside of Truro and the equipment is only available for use within Truro City Centre. However if you require equipment in another village or town outside of Truro, check if there are any shopmobility schemes in the area, or our suppliers Tremorvah Industries provide delivery across the County for their hire fleet.

No, sorry all equipment must be returned by 3pm on the same day. You are welcome to come back and hire the equipment again on another day. However if you require equipment for a longer term hire, our suppliers Tremorvah Industries provide this service and deliver across the County.

Not at all, you can use the equipment for as short a time as you require it. If you only need it for a few minutes to go to one place that's okay as long as you are back by 2.40pm ultimately.

Yes, the maximum time is based on collecting it at 10am when we open and returning it by 2.40pm to complete the paperwork.

No, sorry we do not currently accept debit or credit cards.

Yes, we can accept payment by cheque, please make them payable to "Volunteer Cornwall".

No. Truro Shopmobility is managed by Volunteer Cornwall a county wide charity as part of it’s Community Transport Schemes. We receive support from Cornwall Council in a number of ways as well as funding from various other sources including through the membership and booking fees.

Yes. Each time you book you will need to complete a Booking Form. This form allows you to sign your equipment out and sign it back in again to show that you agree with the condition that the equipment is provided to you as. Additionally this form allows you to indicate whether or not your condition has changed since you last enrolled with us that means you would be unable to use the equipment, or that your condition has stayed the same.

If your condition does change, this does not necessarily mean you won't be able to use the equipment as this question is designed to keep you safe and to ensure the equipment is the best choice for you. We may suggest another type of equipment instead.

We need two forms of ID to enrol you. At least one should have your photograph and at least one should have your address on it. The most common types are from this list:

  • bus pass
  • driving license
  • blue badge
  • recent utility bill

Shopmobility allows anyone (residents and visitors alike) with a temporary or permanent mobility problem to access the city, we achieve this by loaning a range of battery operated mobility scooters and manual wheelchairs to the general public.

Yes, Truro Shopmobility is based at the entrance to Moorfield car park in the heart of Truro city centre.

Moorfield car park is a council run pay and display multi storey car park, currently disabled badge holders can park for free.

Truro shopmobility do have 3 spaces reserved for our service users right next to our office, however please be sure to request one in advance when making your booking as these can book up fast. You do not need to be a blue badge holder to use these spaces but they are subject to the standard parking charges and restrictions for Moorfield Car Park. We can however bring your equipment to you on any level of the car park and to most other car parks in Truro if pre-booked and not your first use.

*MAP TOOL*

Yes, we have three electric scooters which are suitable to carry a person of up to 136KG / 299.8 Pounds / 21.4 Stone.

If you would like to double check before booking please feel free to contact us.

We are based at the vehicle entrance of Moorfield multi storey car park in Truro city centre.

Once in the car park, if you have problems finding us, please feel free to phone and we will be happy to come and find you and guide you in.

The battery life does depend on a few things:

  • Weight of the user
  • The speed that it is driven
  • How many hills it climbs
  • The temperature

We do not expect a scooter to run out of power when used within the city, however in the very unlikely event that your scooter runs out of power we will bring another fully charged scooter to you.

All of our scooters are fully charged after each use, so you will always get a fully charged scooter.

You are always welcome to ask our team about battery life if you would like to confirm it will have enough charge for your particular day trip.

No, Truro Shopmobility is available to anyone who has a reason for not being able to get around Truro City Centre, including temporary conditions such as a broken ankle.

The closest Park and Ride stop is Victoria Square. A pedestrian walkway with ramp from this stop leads straight to Moorfield Car Park up the side of Mallets Home Hardware.

Of course, if you have pre-booked and already joined our scheme then we can meet you at the Victoria Square stop with your equipment.
